Joffrey Baratheon wed Margaery Tyrell amid seventy-seven courses, dwarf jousters, and every splendour two great houses could buy, and did not live to see the bedding. The king spent his feast tormenting his uncle Tyrion (hacking apart his gift of a priceless book, upending wine upon his head, naming him his cupbearer), and then, gorging on pigeon pie and drinking deep, began to cough, and claw at his throat, and turn the colour that gave the wedding its name. He died in his mother's arms, and Cersei's grief found its target in an instant: Tyrion, standing with the empty chalice. The truth wore subtler faces (the strangler had travelled to the feast in the net of Sansa Stark's hair, placed by Lady Olenna Tyrell by Littlefinger's design), but it was the dwarf who went to the black cells, and Sansa who fled the city in a fool's boat, to reappear as Littlefinger's bastard daughter in the Vale.
