The Pact

After two thousand years of war between the First Men and the children of the forest, the wise of both races met upon the Isle of Faces in the Gods Eye, and there struck the peace remembered as the Pact. To the children were granted the deep woods for as long as the world should stand, and men swore to put no more weirwoods to the axe; to men went the coastlands, the high plains, the meadows, the mountains, and the bogs. Every weirwood on the isle was given a face so the gods might witness the signing, and the order of the green men was raised to keep watch over them, as it is said they do still. The Pact held for four thousand years, and with it began the long Age of Heroes.
